Open source firmware allows for greater transparency and collaboration
in the development process, which can lead to more reliable and secure firmware.
In addition, open source firmware can be freely modified and customized to meet
the specific needs of an organization or user, which can be particularly useful
in a server environment where the firmware may need to be tailored to the
specific hardware and software configurations of the server. In short, open
Source firmware is smaller, faster, more secure and more flexible than the
closed sourced software it replaces.

This talk will give a introduction into the open source firmware projects out
there that target the x86 architecture, what devices they support, how to get
them and how to install open source firmware onto them.

We will provide a short introduction to the concept of open source
firmware and its role in controlling the basic functions of devices. We will
discuss some of the popular open source firmware projects, such as coreboot,
U-Boot, and TianoCore, the types of Intel x86 devices that they are used on, and
where to get them.

The talk will also showcase innovative projects in the firmware space like
System Transparency, that have been made possible with open source firmware,
highlighting the benefits and potential of this approach. Through this talk,
attendees will gain a better understanding of the role of open source firmware
in modern device development and the ways in which it can enable more flexible
and adaptable solutions.
